Tech Volunteers: Work with SMC & Malibu Community Labor Exchange
Connecting with the Malibu Community
Connecting with the Malibu Community
We've initiated a program on computer skills in collaboration with Santa Monica Community College here in Malibu. Together with MCLE board member and Associate Dean Alice Meyering, we've started to expand these opportunities, utilizing the excellent labs they've established in the area. It's been exciting to see this initiative grow, providing workers a pathway into formal classroom settings in the community while they enhance their technology skills and proficiency
In addition, staff and faculty from Malibu Middle and High School have been preparing lunches for the MCLE workers, providing a welcomed healthy meal for those at the trailer.
The MCLE has also played an important role in the lives of Malibu Middle and High School students by providing volunteer opportunities and fostering connections with the MCLE workers, who are an integral part of our community.
Service Leadership with Pepperdine University
During the spring semester, MCLE partnered with Pepperdine’s Service Leadership class with Dr. Ruth Bernstein. Dr. Chris Collins, in his role as MCLE board member, was the liaison between MCLE and the team. He worked with them closely to develop strategic plan guidelines for MCLE, with a particular focus on board efficiency. The team included Azar Akunndov, Anton Horowitz, Alexander Johnston, Justin Cacucciolo, Sarah Okamoto, and Sahendra Mallu.
